Bethanechol is a parasympathomimetic choline carbamate that selectively stimulates muscarinic receptors with little effect on nicotinic receptors. Bethanechol is indicated for the treatment of acute postoperative and postpartum nonobstructive (functional) urinary retention and for neurogenic atony of the urinary bladder with retention. — NCATS
