Indications

Mechanism of action

  • DRD2 antagonist

Benperidol is a butyrophenone derivative and a specific dopamine antagonist, selective for the D2 receptor. It also binds to serotonin receptors but to a lesser extent. In high doses it has anti histaminergic and alpha-adrenergic properties but its anticholinergic effects are small.

Benperidol has high affinity and selectivity for binding to central D2-like specific binding sites.
