Through interactions with its GFRalpha1 coreceptor, Glial cell line-derived NTF (GDNF) signals mainly via the transmembrane Ret receptor tyrosine kinase, thereby activating MEK/MAPK, PI3 kinase (PI3K)/Akt, Src, and PLC gamma pathways, mediating neuronal migration, differentiation, growth, and survival.
