Small moleculeexperimental

Selenocysteine is a naturally occurring amino acid. It is analog of cysteine where thiol (-SH) group is replaced by selenol (-SeH) group. 54 human proteins are known to contain selenocysteine. Among them are eukaryotic elongation factor, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, glutathione peroxidase, and others. Selenocysteine is contained in meat, fish, cheese, cereals, Brazil nut and walnuts. — NCATS
